What is an IBCLC?
An IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is the gold standard of lactation support. They have extensive clinical and didactic training as well as a minimum of 1000 hours of hands on lactation support. The term “lactation consultant” isn’t regulated in most states (in Oregon, it is against OHA Guidelines to use the term if you are NOT an IBCLC) and anyone without adequate training can promote breastfeeding advice. Seeking out an IBCLC for lactation support ensures you are getting the very best of care. You can use this registry to verify whether or not someone is an IBCLC.
As a certified nurse midwife and board-certified lactation consultant, I am here to serve and support you in your breastfeeding journey. This may include:
- Latch concerns or difficulty latching
- Nipple pain or breast discomfort
- Breast-related infections and treatment
- Assessing and treating oral ties
- Enhancing milk removal
- Low or overactive milk supply
- Fitting for appropriate pump flanges or nipple shields
- Infant weight concerns
- Hand expression and/or breast pumping
- Supplementing and bottle feeding
- Returning to work
- Drying up milk supply
- And so much more!

Q: How often should I seek lactation support?
A: As often as you’d like! Studies show that continuous lactation support from an IBCLC has the most impact on a successful breastfeeding relationship that extends six months or longer. My recommendation is visits should start within 48 hours of coming home with baby, and then at one, two and four weeks postpartum. Supplemental visits can be added on as needed.
Q: How far do you travel?
A: I will happily travel up to 20 minutes outside Klamath Falls for a home visit! If you’re unsure about the distance or would prefer a visit in town, reach out and we can discuss it!
Q: Do you take insurance?
A: I am in network with OHP (Oregon Medicaid), Cascade Health Alliance, BCBS, Regence, BCBS FEP, Providence, Pacific Source, Cigna, United Healthcare, Moda, and Allegiance. I can accept FSA/HSA funds. We can also discuss the option of billing other insurance companies, or I will happily provide you with a super bill that you can turn in to your insurance company and they may reimburse you. It’s important to let them know there are no in-network IBCLC’s in your area.
Q: Will my insurance pay for lactation services?
A: In most cases, yes! Under the Affordable Care Act, most insurance companies are required to cover lactation visits to support your breastfeeding journey, at little or no cost to you, the client.
